AAC LC in ADTS is supported. An AAC track inside M4A belongs in the M4A tool. Invalid duration or damaged frames may be rejected.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE
A raw AAC file and an AAC track inside M4A are related, but they are not the same input package. Choose the right route and convert only when your destination needs it.

The supported input is an AAC LC audio stream in ADTS. AAC also appears inside MP4 and M4A, which belong in their matching tools. The codec name and container name answer different questions: what audio representation is present, and how the file packages it. A correct tool choice starts with both.
| File or concept | Relationship | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| ADTS | frames | the accepted AAC LC stream |
| AAC inside M4A | belongs in | the M4A conversion tool |

AAC-to-MP3 is a lossy-to-lossy conversion. It can solve a destination requirement, but it is not an audio enhancement. Keep the AAC source and create the MP3 from it once. Repeatedly changing between codecs accumulates processing steps without restoring the original recording before its first compression.

The source must have a valid duration within 30 minutes and remain within 75 MiB. Incomplete transfers or damaged frames may prevent reliable processing even when a player can open part of the file. Export a complete local recording again when possible; do not assume changing its filename repairs the stream.

A low-bitrate AAC source can produce a larger MP3 at the chosen setting. That is expected because the output uses a new constant data rate. If the goal is strictly to reduce an already compact file, compare the expected MP3 size first. If the goal is compatibility, accept the size change only when it serves that destination.
Start at 192 kbps unless the destination gives you a different requirement. Compare 128 kbps when compactness matters, or 256/320 kbps when you can allocate more space. These are constant-bitrate MP3 settings. A higher number cannot recover detail already absent from the input, and your original remains the best reference for judging the copy.
Ten minutes at 192 kbps is approximately 14.4 MB of audio payload. Ten minutes at 320 kbps is about 24 MB. Mono versus stereo does not halve that estimate at the same total bitrate. Select channels for the recording, then check the actual duration, channel count and size shown with the finished result.

Listen to the beginning, a demanding middle passage and the ending. Check that the expected speaker or music is present and try the MP3 in its intended app. The converter verifies readable output, but your listening check establishes whether the file suits your task. Source tags and artwork are removed; organize the downloaded copy locally if you need them.
Your upload is processed temporarily on a server. The result is available for one hour; download it before relying on the temporary link. Delete files requests earlier cleanup and closes access. Wait for confirmed deletion, and retain your own source separately because a temporary conversion result is not a backup or an editing archive.

No. A higher output bitrate cannot recover detail lost in the source. MP3 is always lossy. Keep WAV, FLAC or ALAC originals if you need an archival copy.
